PSHE
Subject Lead - Mrs Galley
Nominated Governor - Mrs A Throp
An important part of your child's curriculum and personal development at Halsall St Cuthbert's is their PSHE (personal, social, health and economic education) curriculum.
PSHE promotes and protects the wellbeing of all of our pupils.
We have a separate policy for RSE (Relationships and Sex Education), although it is taught alongside our PSHE units.
In Years 5 and 6 we do teach particular RSE units. In Year 5 these focus on the changing body during puberty. In Year 6 this covers menstruation, puberty, sex and reproduction, and staying safe online and with phones.
Parents do have the right to remove their child from the sex education parts of the curriculum. However, they do not have the right to withdraw them from the Science-based sex education part (puberty and sexual reproduction). We encourage parents to discuss coverage and possible withdrawl with us before making any decisions, as we have given careful consideration to our curriculum coverage and believe it to be necessary and appropriate for our pupils at an appropriate age. You have the right as parents to view the materials we use to deliver RSE and these can be made available to you.
Following a consultation with parents and governors, our curriculum aims to meet the needs of the pupils in our school, in our area and in the world.
We use our Christian values to help us in PSHE and also explore the fundamental British values.
